And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
1 Thessalonians 4:11,12
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-12
A poor man’s field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away.
The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
2 Timothy 2:6
Let him that sole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to grieve to him that needeth.
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall therof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for me maintenance for the maidens.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
